Peterson, Dr. Frederick D., passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the age of 85. Fred received his medical and pediatric training from Washington University. He was a founding member of the Children’s Clinic STL. He was also Professor of Pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where he was instrumental in establishing COPE (Community Outpatient Practice Experience), which pairs pediatric residents with practicing pediatricians. He mentored Washington University medical students in the Practice of Medicine course, and was a recipient of the Washington University School of Medicine Faculty Achievement Award. Always active in professional affairs, he served as President of the Washington University Medical Alumni, the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, and the Children’s Hospital Medical Staff Society. Dr. Fred was a good and well-respected doctor who was beloved by his patients. He was very fond of kids and dogs, and for many years was a clown in the Veiled Prophet parade. He was devoted to Christ Church Cathedral, which he served in many capacities, including as Senior Warden. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Mary Peterson of Tallahassee, Florida. Contributions may be sent to Christ Church Cathedral, 1210 Locust Street, St. Louis, MO 63103.
